Cajuns bust loose, beat UL-Monroe 8-1 in continuation of Thursday’s suspended series opener

LAFAYETTE — What a difference a day makes.

The Louisiana-Lafayette baseball team was hitless through four innings Thursday night and trailing Louisiana-Monroe 1-0 when the game was suspended because of some nasty weather. When play resumed nearly 21 hours later Friday, the Ragin’ Cajuns looked like an offensive juggernaut.

It only took them four batters into the day’s opening inning to reclaim the lead, and they kept piling on after that, scoring eight runs on eight hits from the fifth through eighth innings to take the first game of the series 8-1.

The Ragin’ Cajuns improved to 35-19 overall and 19-9 in Sun Belt Conference play.
