Herman Williams, a signee to the Louisiana-Lafayette men’s basketball team, died Monday after collapsing during a workout, Panama City (Florida) TV station WJHG-TV reported Monday night.

WJHG said Williams died after collapsing while working out on a court in Florida’s Jackson County.

Williams, a 6-foot-2 guard from Marianna (Florida) High School, averaged 29.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists as a junior, according to the news release from UL-Lafayette after Williams signed his letter of intent in November. Williams had committed to the Ragin’ Cajuns earlier that month.

The school confirmed Williams’ death with a tweet Monday night: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of @Cajunbasketball signee Herman Williams who passed away earlier today in Florida.
