Arizona only had 19 home runs as a team entering the NCAA Lafayette baseball regional, but the Wildcats discovered the long ball Friday.
The second-seeded Wildcats hit three home runs, including back-to-back homers in a four-run fourth inning on the way to a 7-3 victory over Sam Houston State in the rain-delayed regional opener.
Arizona, making its first NCAA tournament appearance since the Wildcats won the national title in 2011, will play the winner of the Louisiana-Lafayette-Princeton game at 7 p.m. Saturday. Sam Houston State will face the UL-Lafayette-Princeton loser in a Saturday 1 p.m. elimination game.
