LAFAYETTE — Arizona jumped out to an early lead against Louisiana-Lafayette and hung on behind a gutsy pitching effort from starter Nathan Bannister to win 6-3 and force a winner-take-all Game 7.
The Wildcats (41-21) snapped a 12-game win streak for the Cajuns (43-20) in the process.
Arizona knocked Cajuns starter Evan Guillory (5-6) out of the game before he was able to record an out in the first inning. With the bases loaded, Guillory’s final pitch was yanked into right field by cleanup hitter Ryan Aguilar, plating two runs.
Cajuns coach Tony Robichaux turned to junior right-hander Will Bacon, and Arizona tried to give the Cajuns a dose of their own medicine.
