29 games in, Cajuns pitcher Evan Guillory finally gets to start at home

LAFAYETTE — The pitcher’s mound is the only spot of dirt on the M.L. Tigue Moore diamond, and it is up to those who inhabit that space to take care of their workplace.

After every game and every practice, the pitchers gather around with rakes, brushes and water hoses. Everyone does their part with maintenance.

Forgive sophomore pitcher Evan Guillory if he hasn’t wanted to participate in that ritual. That home mound has not felt much like home.

“This year, I would just stand there and say, ‘I’m not going to pitch off this thing for a couple of months, so my opinion doesn’t matte,’” Guillory said.
