Rams flashback: The time LeRoy Irvin was and wasn’t traded

The LA Rams drafted defensive back LeRoy Irvin with the 70th overall pick in the 1980 NFL Draft. After a career at Kansas that included 10 interceptions and two punt return touchdowns, Irvin made his mark as a Pro Bowl cornerback in 1985 and 1986, while also being named as a first-team all-pro in 1981 and ‘86.

Irvin recorded 35 interceptions in his career, including a total of 21 picks from 1983-1986.

Coming off of his dominant performance in ‘86, Irvin predictably wanted a better financial situation for himself when he turned 30 in 1987.
