Oct. 19, 1998: Rams player Leonard Little kills woman in downtown crash on his 24th birthday

On Oct. 19, 1998, St. Louis Rams football player Leonard Little crashed into a car in downtown St. Louis on his 24th birthday. The car's driver, Susan Gutweiler, 47, died of her injuries the next day. This was one of the Post-Dispatch's first stories on the crash, which led to Little pleading guilty of involuntary manslaughter.

The results of a blood test could determine whether Rams football player Leonard Little will be charged with manslaughter in connection with a fatal accident in downtown St. Louis late Monday.

Police said Tuesday that at least three witnesses told officers that Little's Lincoln Navigator - the largest sport utility vehicle on the market - went through a red light and crashed broadside into a Ford Thunderbird at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Market Street about 11 p.
