Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2866, located at 66 VFW Lane in St. Charles, decided by member vote on Wednesday to stop showing National Football League games in the Club Room.
"We will no longer be showing NFL games in our Club Room until NFL and it’s (sic) players show proper respect to our flag," according to a press release sent by Post 2866 Commander Paul Schmidt.
More than 1,000 members of Post 2866 voted on the issue, Schmidt said, and not one dissented. Their decision to stop showing the games comes after football teams of all stripes, from professional down to high school, are nonviolently protesting police brutality against African Americans by kneeling or remaining in the locker room as the national anthem plays.
