The Los Angeles Rams and franchised safety Lamarcus Joyner did not reach a long-term deal by the NFL's deadline for organizations to sign tagged players to multi-year contracts or extensions on Monday.
Playing under the franchise tag, Joyner will earn nearly $11.3 million and is scheduled to become a free agent after the season.
A fifth-year pro, Joyner played his first three seasons at cornerback before defensive coordinator Wade Phillips' moved him to safety in his 3-4 scheme.
Joyner, 27, thrived at the position and finished as the third-highest graded safety by Pro Football Focus.
