When the Los Angeles Rams passed on highly regarded Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, I was a bit perplexed. Sander seemed to fall into the category of a low-risk, high-reward prospect. And when the Cleveland Browns finally selected him in Round 5, the cries of 'Steal of the NFL Draft' reverberated across the nation.
It wasn't that I had my heart set on the Rams selecting Sanders or any particular rookie quarterback. It was that had hoped that the team might select some rookie quarterback to begin coaching up to become NFL-worthy in the future. I was unconvinced that the Rams have a long shelf life remaining with veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford.
