This Day In Lakers History: L.A. Holds Off Utah Jazz To Take Commanding Series Lead

To win in the NBA Playoffs it takes plenty of talent, chemistry, and a little bit of luck. Fortunately for the Los Angeles Lakers, they have managed to check all of those boxes more often than not, bringing home 16 NBA championships in the process.

On May 9, 2010, the Lakers indeed needed all three of those things in order to pick up a victory over the Utah Jazz and push them to the brink of elimination. That season’s Jazz were led by Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer, who formed a deadly inside-outside combination.

However, as strong as Boozer could be in the post, he didn’t possess the length to deal with Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom, which Los Angeles exploited in the first two games in the series to take a 2-0 lead.
