Sources: Howard's buyout done; will join Lakers

Dwight Howard will sign with the Los Angeles Lakers after he and his representatives reached an agreement on a buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, league sources have told ESPN.

Howard, 33, will sign a one-year, non-guaranteed deal, league sources said.

The Lakers, who have been exploring options at center after DeMarcus Cousins was lost with a torn ACL, are entering a Howard partnership with caution. For years, Howard has talked about making changes in how he interacts with coaches and teammates. He's still saying those things now, but the ability to cut him without cost keeps leverage with the Lakers organization.
