After apparently getting played by reigning NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard during the first week of free agency, Rob Pelinka immediately pivoted and signed several strong complementary players that have caused the team to be installed as at least one of the favorites in Vegas to win the world championship.
There was plenty of tension following the end of the 2018-19 regular season about whether the Lakers would not only acquire a second superstar to go along with LeBron James, but whether they would still have enough cap space to field a team that featured enough high quality role players to make them a title contender.
