Lakers reportedly won’t replace Magic Johnson, Rob Pelinka to answer to ownership

While it’s been assumed for several weeks now, we finally have confirmation that the Los Angeles Lakers have no intentions of hiring a president of basketball operations to replace Magic Johnson, who resigned from his position in April.

Instead, general manager Rob Pelinka will report to the team’s ownership group, which includes team president and controlling owner Jeanie Buss, according to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN:

The Lakers have decided they will not hire a President of Basketball Operations to replace Magic Johnson, a team source told ESPN.

General manager Rob Pelinka will continue in his role, reporting directly to ownership.
