Lakers officially sign Marcelo Huertas

The Catalyst is back!

The Los Angeles Lakers have officially re-signed point guard Marcelo Huertas, according to a team press release. Huertas spent his first and only NBA season with the Lakers, averaging 4.5 points and 3.4 assists per game.

Huertas himself will likely play sparingly, a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency option to play in the stead of D'Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, and the newly acquired Jose Calderon, but his officially inking his contract could be significant for one reason.

It could just be a coincidence, but Huertas signing his contract a day after Oklahoma City Thunder signed Russell Westbrook to a three-year extension seems like anything but happenstance.
