Byron Scott softens criticism of Lakers' effort in Monday's loss to Suns

EL SEGUNDO – Byron Scott’s season has at times been an outward struggle to balance the patience required to develop young players, and the win-now mentality coaches need to survive.

On Thursday, the Lakers coach was the gentler, more understanding version of himself, cutting his players some slack for the 120-101 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Monday.

At the time, Scott was boiling. He said his team needed to “man up.”

Three days later, Scott said: “As mad as I was about the way we played the last game … I also have to go back and look at the schedule we just got through.
