Lakers Rumors: LA Management Leaning Towards Firing Mike D'Antoni

The Los Angeles Lakers are leaning towards firing Mike D'Antoni at the end of the 2014 season, according to ESPNLA's Dave McMenamin.

"Despite reports out there that the Lakers could be leaning toward retaining Mike D'Antoni, my sources tell me that is not the case," McMenamin said on ESPN Tuesday.

"If anything, they're leaning toward relieving him of his coaching duties at the end of this season and not picking up that final year of his contract that is $4 million guaranteed, and find[ing] someone else out there on the market."

The Lakers signed General Manager Mitch Kupchak to a multi-year contract extension on Tuesday. There were rumors linking Kentucky's John Calipari to the Lakers coaching job over the weekend, but both parties moved quickly to deny any move was in the works.

The Lakers are 25-53 on the season, their record worst in the NBA's modern era.
