CARSON, Calif. – Less than five minutes were all that stood between a victory for the LA Galaxy and a victorious return for Nigel de Jong in Sunday’s California Clasico against the San Jose Earthquakes at StubHub Center.
But a sellout crowd of 27,167 looked on helplessly as San Jose’s Fatai Alashe scored on a point-blank header in the 87th minute for a stunning 1-1 draw.
The draw may have stretched the Galaxy’s league-high unbeaten streak to nine games (4-0-5), but it did little to ease de Jong’s post-game disappointment.
“We just have to come back Tuesday and see what the reasons were,” he said.
