With Shohei Ohtani gone, Angels have challenge of overhauling roster

It was during his introductory news conference at Angel Stadium in November that new manager Ron Washington briefly expressed wanting Shohei Ohtani “back badly,” much like any team would want the two-way star on their team.

But in the wake of Ohtani’s decision Saturday to sign with the Dodgers for 10 years and $700 million, the Angels now must navigate a future in which they try to win without him — not that they had won with Ohtani during his three best seasons to date.

General manager Perry Minasian had already suggested that with or without Ohtani, he intended to continue making a play for a winner in Anaheim.
