Unfortunate Dodgers injury news explains Alex Freeland move, ups trade deadline ante

On Monday, it was reported top prospect Alex Freeland was getting the call to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Fans later found out it was because one of Hyeseong Kim or Tommy Edman would require a stint on the injured list.

We finally got our answer on Tuesday when Kim landed on the IL with shoulder bursitis. That cleared the way for Freeland, but that's a notable hit to the Dodgers infield. Kim was hitting .304 with 12 stolen bases in 58 games. He's also logged reps at second base, shortstop and center field.

Shoulder bursitis certainly presents a longer-term concern, so the promotion of Freeland shouldn't prevent the Dodgers from remaining aggressive at the trade deadline if they need to.
