Chris Hatcher started in 2006 as a position player but switched to pitching in 2011. Last season was his first significant time spent in the majors and he took a step forward by striking out 60 in 56 innings while walking 12. His WHIP was 1.19 while his ERA was 3.38. With his stuff it should have been logical that under the tutelage of Rick Honeycutt, he would take another step forward to become a solid middle guy. Unfortunately, Don Mattingly has repeatedly thrust him into pressure situations that he seems unable to handle. It has reached the point where he may not be salvageable – he needs to go down to AAA, work on his pitches and get his confidence back.
