History was made in the Bay Area on Saturday night in what turned out to be a very heated game. With the Giants facing the Padres, Alyssa Nakken took the field to become the Giants’ first base coach. It was the first time in MLB history that a female has coached on the field.
Nakken replaced Antoan Richardson as the first base coach after he was ejected from the ballgame. She was announced as his replacement during the game, getting huge applause from the Oracle Park crowd and receiving a handshake from Padres’ first baseman Eric Hosmer. It was a monumental moment for MLB.
