The Dodgers plan to unveil a finished Jackie Robinson statue at Dodger Stadium on April 15, 2017, a year to the day after they announced the project was in the works.
The historic day also marks the 70th anniversary of Robinson’s major league debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers, the day he became the first African-American to break Major League Baseball’s “color barrier.”
Last December, the Dodgers announced sculptor Branly Cadet had been selected for the project, along with the theme of “Leveling the Playing Field.” The statue will be approximately nine to 10 feet tall. Other details, including the statue’s exact location, haven’t been announced.
