The Los Angeles Dodgers are constantly impressed by Shohei Ohtani, but after throwing his fastest pitch ever recorded in MLB — a 101.7 mph fastball — there is quite a bit to unpack from just the third start after a second Tommy John surgery.
Saturday included two scoreless innings from Ohtani, a strikeout, and three swings and misses across 27 pitches. The three-time MVP spoke on his outing and how he nearly hit 102 mph in just his third pitching appearance with the Dodgers.
“It’s something I don’t think I would be able to do in a live BP setting,” Ohtani said through his interpreter.
