The Los Angeles Dodgers optioned outfielder Zach Reks to Triple-A Oklahoma City ahead of the series opener against the Colorado Rockies in order to place Jimmie Sherfy on the active roster after he was claimed off waivers earlier in the week.
Reks was called up for two games leading into the All-Star break, and in those contests he went 0-for-2 but scored one run in each. In three total games at the Major League level this season, Reks is hitless in four plate appearances.
Sherfy was designated for assignment by the San Francisco Giants on July 6 and nearly fell through the cracks of waivers.
