LOS ANGELES – The Dodgers received four players in their December trade with the Miami Marlins.
They spun one (young left-hander Andrew Heaney) to the Angels for Howie Kendrick. Kiké Hernandez has been a valuable utility player off the Dodgers’ bench for most of the season. And catcher Austin Barnes is having a good year in Triple-A.
But the fourth player – a power-armed reliever expected to play a significant role at the back end of the Dodgers’ bullpen – never really showed up. Right-hander Chris Hatcher readily acknowledges that the Dodgers have never seen the player they thought they were getting in that offseason trade.
