The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres, 4-3, thanks to an epic Will Smith pinch-hit walk-off solo shot that was mere inches away from being caught by Fernando Tatis Jr.
Any pinch-hit walk-off dinger would have been sweet, but L.A. improved to 46-29 on the year in one of the best ways imaginable Wednesday night.
In keeping with the excitement of the walk-off, the Dodgers announced shortly after the win that Sunday’s starting pitcher against the Washington Nationals will be Shohei Ohtani. The three-time MVP is set to take the mound for his second start in a Dodgers uniform as he continues his return to pitching after 22 months away from the bump.
