Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts is going to miss the 2026 World Baseball Classic. He was set to participate, though his wife is expected to have a baby during the tournament.
“I was, but I can’t now,” Betts said on Adin Ross’ livestream. “My wife, we’re having a kid, so, the baby’s due in the middle of the WBC. She said she’d divorce me if I wasn’t there.”
Luckily, for the United States, there is a good deal of talent in the country, and Betts’ absence won’t be felt too strongly.
In other news, Teoscar Hernandez could end up being traded if the Dodgers land a prized outfield free agent, a move that will open up playing time and free up money as well.
