Dodgers Notes: LA Makes Roster Move, Former All-Star DFA’d, Will Smith to IL?

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-3, on Thursday and were swept in the three-game set. LA fell to 78-62 on the year and are just two games ahead of the San Diego Padres in the NL West.

Ahead of the eventual defeat, the Dodgers made a roster move, sending down Alex Freeland and selecting the contract of catcher Ben Rortvedt. The 24-year-old infielder batted just .190 in his 29 MLB appearances this season.

In a corresponding 40-man roster move, Alexis Diaz was designated for assignment. The 28-year-old right-handed pitched tossed a 5.00 ERA across nine innings of work in a Dodgers uniform.
