GLENDALE, Ariz. – New manager Dave Roberts got his first chance to address a group of his players Saturday as Dodgers pitchers and catchers held their first workout of the spring.
“It’s exciting,” Roberts said. “I think as a coach or as a first-time manager you want to control your emotions. But we just met for the first time in there and I let the guys know how excited I am, how excited the staff is. And I’m sure they are to get going as well. Every spring training the first day is always exciting.”
Roberts said his first speech to the team wasn’t something he had planned for years in anticipation of getting a managerial job.
