Dodgers’ Mookie Betts Opens Up About Stepfather’s Death, Difficult Year

In a year when Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts has had a career-worst slump on the diamond, the superstar opened up on the difficulties of off-the-field life this season.

A stomach bug caused him to miss the first two regular-season games of the year, and he lost close to 20 pounds as a result. A broken toe suffered at the end of May put a brief, but electric, start to the season after the illness to a halt.

Unfortunately, Betts lost his stepfather last month and recently opened up on the brutal year he’s had, especially after what should have been a happier moment on Friday night, launching his first home run in over a month.
