Things started off with a defensive gem from Kiké Hernández, leaning into the stands to record the first out of the game. Shohei Ohtani punched out Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to record the second out, and allowed a walk and an infield single right after. He generated a pop out to get the final out and the defending champions moved to the bottom of the frame.
