Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes revealed why the Dodgers pursued relief pitcher Edwin Diaz during his introductory press conference on Friday.
Diaz agreed to a three-year, $69 million contract with the Dodgers on December 9, marking the first big-money signing the Dodgers made this offseason. He officially signed the contract minutes before his press conference on Friday.

“We were looking to add impactful players to what we thought like was already a championship-caliber club, you know, we felt like Edwin was the perfect fit,” Gomes said.
