Los Angeles Dodgers closer Edwin Diaz revealed his reasoning behind the decision to don the No. 3.
The Dodgers have No. 39 retired in honor of Roy Campanella, which prevented Diaz from picking the number he has worn with the New York Mets throughout his MLB career.
Since his former number was not available, Diaz was sent a list of alternative numbers, he said during his introductory press conference, and he eventually decided on his number.
“I think choos[ing] number three was easy. I talked to my wife. We got three kids. So that’s the reason I picked number three because [of] my three sons,” Diaz said.
