GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A bone scan on Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier's right shin returned the worst-case news.
The bone scan revealed a fracture in" Ethier's right tibia which went undetected by X-rays. Ethier will be sidelined 10 to 14 weeks -- a timeline Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said could be adjusted further based on how Ethier heals. No surgery is planned and Ethier's leg will be re-examined in five or six weeks, Friedman said.
The injury occurred in Friday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks when Ethier fouled a ball off his leg. X-rays at the time did not detect a fracture but three days later Ethier was still in pain and using crutches to get around so he was sent for a bone scan Monday.
