The Los Angeles Dodgers activating catcher Ben Rortvedt ahead of Thursday’s series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates, manager Dave Roberts announced.
While the Dodgers haven’t yet decided whether or not All-Star catcher Will Smith will go on the injured list, the team is bringing Rortvedt up to back up Dalton Rushing as Smith is unlikely to play for at least a few days. The corresponding roster move has not yet been announced, but the Dodgers will need to open a 40-man roster spot for Rortvedt.
The Dodgers will have three catchers on the active roster for the time being as Smith undergoes more testing.
