One year to the day after the Dodgers announced a Jackie Robinson statue was in the works — April 15, 2017 — the team plans to unveil the finished product at Dodger Stadium.
The historic day also marks the 70th anniversary of Robinson’s major league debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers, the day he became the first African-American to break Major League Baseball’s “color barrier.”
Last December the Dodgers announced sculptor Branly Cadet had been selected for the project, along with the theme of “Leveling the Playing Field.” The statue will be approximately nine to 10 feet tall.
