Corey Seager already paying off for Dodgers

The equipment men didn’t even pretend. They did not give Corey Seager one of those defensive-tackle numbers, the ones they give to remind rookies of their subservience. They gave him No. 5 right out of the chute. They knew they’d have to, eventually.

“I haven’t worn 5 before,” the kid shortstop said Tuesday, after his fourth double in his first major league week helped the Dodgers get past the free-falling Angels, 6-4, on Tuesday.

“I was expecting something bigger. It’s a little more comfortable.”

Seager only turned 21 last Thursday. Shortly after that he made his major league debut in San Diego.
