Adrian Gonzalez’s World Baseball Classic comments did not fall on deaf ears

LOS ANGELES >> It’s too early to define the full legacy of the 2017 World Baseball Classic, but a tweak to the tournament’s tiebreaker procedures might be part of it.

Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred, speaking prior to the WBC championship game at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday, wouldn’t rule out changing a confusing tiebreaker procedure that ultimately eliminated Team Mexico in the first round.

“We’ll sit down and … talk about the event, talk about the way we broke ties, talk about the format, see if there’s something you can do with the format that avoids tiebreaker rules that are not often used in our game,” Manfred said, “and that will be a conversation that will take place over the next four years.
