Dodgers News: First-Round Pick Gavin Lux Expected To Turn Pro, Bypass College

The Los Angeles Dodgers drafted 19-year-old shortstop Gavin Lux with the No. 20 overall pick in the first round, and even though he is committed to Arizona State, he plans to skip college and sign with the Dodgers.

"Right now I definitely want to play professional baseball. I'm kind of set on doing that," Lux said . "For me I just want to get out there and get going as soon as possible. I'm pumped up to start my career right now."

Lux hails from Indian Trails High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and was projected to be an early second-round pick. However, Billy Gasparino, LA's director of amateur scouting, said he had Lux ranked as the top shortstop in the draft.

The slot value for the No. 20 pick is $2,316,300, a significant amount more than the $1.8 million Lux would have gotten had he fallen to where he was projected.

Lux hit .531 with six home runs and 23 steals in 26 games in his senior season.
