Lakers forward Julius Randle experiencing the peaks and valleys of the game

After playing Julius Randle only 11 minutes against the Memphis Grizzlies, Lakers coach Luke Walton offered an explanation Friday morning.

Walton started Randle on Friday night amid a rash of injuries for the team. Randle started the game by missing four shots but had scored 13 points on six-of-10 shooting by halftime.

“Julius has shown us how great he can be,” Walton said Friday morning. “… Some nights when he doesn’t play big minutes, is because other guys are rolling and some nights it’s because I don’t believe he is playing up to the standard that he set for himself.
