Final: Shorthanded Clippers fall as Karl-Anthony Towns rallies Timberwolves

LOS ANGELES – The best chance for the Clippers over the next month or so was on the bench in a gray slim-cut suit.

Blake Griffin, who has been out since undergoing knee surgery in late December, bounded up off the bench when DeAndre Jordan threw down a dunk, when Brandon Bass muscled up a putback and when Jamal Crawford finally got a shot to fall.

But with Chris Paul’s left thumb freshly operated on, the Clippers need another playmaker way more than they need a cheerleader.

Griffin should be on the way – the team is hoping he’ll be able to return on the Clippers’ upcoming trip.
