SAN DIEGO (CNS) - With polls showing support far below the two-thirds threshold needed for victory, Chargers Chairman Dean Spanos and Mayor Kevin Faulconer Friday called on San Diegans to vote in favor of Measure C.
The city proposition would create the framework for a football stadium and meeting space building project in the East Village, near Petco Park.
Construction and operations would be funded, in part, by a hike in the city's hotel room tax. The levy is currently 10.5 percent on room bills, with a 2 percent fee that funds tourism promotions.
Under Measure C, the additional tourism fee would be eliminated, but the room tax itself would be hiked to 16.
