San Diegan gives Team Spanos an L.A. edge

A longtime San Diegan is a big reason why Team Spanos believes its first season in Los Angeles will be a success.

Philip Rivers, a San Diegan since 2004 who said he’ll commute to Orange County this season, is a better passer than most quarterbacks his team will face this season.

A few caveats worth considering:

Though there’s a clear gap between Rivers and projected 2017 opponents such as Brock Osweiler (Browns), Blake Bortles (Jags), 38-year-old Josh McCown (Jets) and Trevor Siemian (Broncos) — an edge that perhaps projects to a 4-1 record for Team Spanos, counting a 1-1 mark against Denver — there are several good quarterbacks on the schedule as well.
