Nick Canepa's Chargers report card: vs. Chiefs

Union-Tribune columnist Nick Canepa issues his grades for the Chargers’ season-opening 38-28 loss to Kansas City at StubHub Center in Carson:

Quarterbacks: B

At unfilled Carson High (Arrowhead West), Philip Rivers deserved so much better (threw for 424 yards and 3 scores but almost had as many drops as he has children). He missed an open TD opportunity early. Travis Benjamin dropped what could have been a TD and then another late. Tyrell Williams dropped a score. Philip threw a terrible pick to stop a drive. Not many teams run up 33 first downs and lose.
