SAN DIEGO -- One of the main story lines of the 2015 draft was speculation that the San Diego Chargers would execute a draft-day trade that sent franchise quarterback Philip Rivers to the Tennessee Titans for the No. 2 overall pick and an opportunity to select University of Oregon product Marcus Mariota.
Fueling that speculation was a group of Chargers brass that included general manager Tom Telesco and head coach Mike McCoy flying to Eugene, Oregon, to work out Mariota two weeks before the draft.
Of course, the Chargers never made a trade and signed Rivers to a lucrative, multi-year extension months later that included a no-trade clause, guaranteeing that Rivers would retire with the team, which was Chargers chairman Dean Spanos' wish.
