Good morning.
In this wide-ranging interview with Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune, former San Diego Chargers general manager A.J. Smith said that league sources have told him the team will stay in San Diego, even though the Chargers have an option to join the Los Angeles Rams in Inglewood should things not work out here.
“The Chargers aren’t going anywhere,” Smith said. “So the fear factor of the local fans, rest assured the Chargers will be here. There is no option to go to L.A.”
Smith went on to say that the Chargers likely do have an option to move to Los Angeles in writing -- which they do -- but that that the league and Rams’ owner Stan Kroenke do not want them there, so most likely the team will have to figure out through negotiation a solution for a new stadium to be built in San Diego.
