Column: Rivers rolls on for Chargers while young AFC QBs nurse injuries

Philip Rivers rewarded his team Sunday not only by leading it to victory but also by avoiding injury.

That’s not cheap praise for the San Diegan who’s never missed an NFL start.

Just one week into the season, injuries have beset several other quarterbacks in the AFC. And the Week 1 injury wave comes just days after the Colts, who faced Rivers in the opener, lost quarterback Andrew Luck to injury-induced retirement at 29.

Before the Jaguars and Chiefs reached halftime of their game Sunday, injuries had struck their quarterbacks.

Jacksonville’s Nick Foles was lost to a broken collarbone, the second of his career, when he took a hit on his second series soon after releasing a long scoring pass.
