Column: Chargers’ Rivers keeps grinding while Colts continue without Luck

IRVINE —

Old Man Rivers is healthy and practicing, and that’s status quo for the durable San Diegan who has quarterbacked his NFL team since 2006.

What’s the status of Philip Rivers’ Week 1 counterpart — the younger, faster Andrew Luck?

For three months, he’s not practiced. The Indianapolis Colts report he’s slowed by a calf injury.

Even if Luck returns soon, the durability gap at quarterback seems likely to benefit Rivers and Co. when they open their season against the Colts, a fellow 2018 playoff team, on Sept. 8 in Carson.

You don’t need to twist Rivers’ arm to sell him on the merits of practice.
