According to Adam Caplan, the Chargers are re-signing veteran TE Jeff Cumberland to a contract on Tuesday.
Cumberland, 30, originally signed on with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois back in 2010. He was in the final year of his three-year, $5.7 million contract when he was released by the Jets last year.
The Chargers later signed him to a one-year, $840,000 contract before last year’s draft. Unfortunately, his 2016 season ended during the preseason when he suffered an Achilles tear and was later placed on injured reserve.
Cumberland returned to the Chargers on a one-year, $775K contract this past April only to cut him loose coming out of the preseason.
